History of John Deere® Planters

John Deere was founded in 1837, and since their creation, have focused on innovation and improved technologies for farmers. The company’s commitment to the industry allows a strong focus for local farmers and the ability to cater to each geographic market.

The first planter was a joint effort between Deere and Mansur and was launched in 1877. Their planter technology was established before the Waterloo Boy tractor! By the end of 1899, John Deere was the largest planter manufacturer in the world. While planter designs have rapidly advanced and improved, many of today’s changes continue to reflect the accuracy of the original Rotary Drop planter.

Multiple Planter Options

Every farmer faces different challenges as planting season approaches and will require different functions from the planter they use. John Deere offers four different types of row planters: DR planters, DB planters, mounted planters, and drawn planters.

The DR planters are the most customizable with stack-fold technology, allowing growers ultimate flexibility for specialized needs. These specialized configurations are mounted planters. DB planters are built for high-acreage producers. They come in widths ranging from 44 to 120 feet and are available in ten different drawn planter configurations.

The traditional mounted series planters offer a compact and economical option for farmers utilizing conventional and reduced-till planting methods.

Finally, often the most commonly used option, are drawn planters. These models are versatile and allow growers to cover more acres with flexibility for the preferred planting method; they can handle conventional and no-till situations.

Accurate Technology & Customization

Possibly the greatest benefit of John Deere planters is the precision technology it can be equipped with. Precision planting technology has taken the industry by storm, and Deere offers great options. With upgrades like ExactEmerge™, you can achieve higher and more uniform emergence rates, and you’ll be able to plant the correct population for optimal growth and yield. This upgrade option also provides reassurance that all seeds are being planted at correct depth and spacing, even if the planter encounters different field conditions.

Another unit upgrade offered for John Deere planters is the MaxEmerge™ 5e upgrade. This feature offers row-by-row shutoff to improve spacing and population accuracy around curves and corners of the field. This system complements variable-rate planting systems and can be added to most planters. Technology options such as this make the benefits of these planters pretty obvious because you can improve your planting setup without needing to purchase an entirely new planter!

Along with technology upgrades, their planters are also customizable. Many models can be equipped with tracks, liquid fertilizer applicators, and other beneficial tools. They are truly built to fit each farmer’s needs.
